Have a website that nobody knows about? Want to drive traffic to it with relevant keywords and search terms? Heard of search engine optimisation [SEO] but don't know what it is or how to do it? Have access to analytics or web stats but don't know
how to read them or what to do with them? Not keeping your site updated or monitoring
it's position [ranking] on search sites?
In short, SEO is a part of a more holistic process known as search engine marketing [SEM] during which you set goals, determine areas of weakness and improvement, evaluate competition and identify opportunities. Then you
use these indicators to optimise your site and make it more 'friendly' and 'visible' to search engines.
Even if your website is search engine friendly, the major search sites and the databases [engines] behind them are constant evolving - and so are your competitors. If you don't monitor your site's performance in those search sites, how could you possibly know if these changes are affecting your rankings or if you're losing traffic? And if your competition are on the ball and doing things properly, how can you expect to keep up with them? Frequent monitoring allows you to identify and react to any changes which in turn allows you to take appropriate action and ensure that your site actually shows up in search results and keeps traffic flowing.
To give you a better understanding of how it works, let's go into it in a little more detail. When a user visits a search site and enters their criteria, the engine searches it's database for viable options based on complicated algorithms that are kept as closely guarded secrets by their owners [e.g. Google] and within seconds, the results are displayed. And those results are based mainly on the way that sites are optimised. Like most things however,
it takes time [results are never immediate], experience and the right formula to get it right.
Many people are under the impression that you simply 'add a few keywords to the meta tags' and their site will be optimised, without understanding that it's not as simple as that and that the major sites ignore meta keywords! Keywords and phrases are still the foundation of SEM, but it's their relevance and usage within the text content that 're really important - balancing the best ones for your industry with the lowest number of competitors [Keyword Effectiveness Index - KEI].
If you want it to work well, it really does need to be planned properly and handled by someone who knows what they're doing.
We'll work with you to build and implement your SEM plan that will result in high rankings. If you're also thinking about re-designing
your website, then this is a fantastic opportunity to build SEM into its new design, although we can optimise an existing site if that's what you require...
